Drag Race stars slam GB News host's 'disgusting' anti-LGBTQ+ remark
Briefly

Stars from RuPaul's Drag Race UK have rallied for action from Ofcom against GB News following a derogatory remark by commentator Josh Howie. In a segment about LGBTQ+ inclusion, Howie wrongly associated consensual relationships with paedophilia, prompting outrage that resulted in over 71,000 complaints. Members of the Good Law Project have formally submitted complaints to Ofcom, criticizing the dangerous normalization of hate speech in media. Stars Divina de Campo and Crystal condemned the remarks, emphasizing the need to combat this prejudice and safeguard LGBTQ+ communities.
The attempt to link loving consensual relationships with abusers is not only disgusting, it's also statistically false. Straight men are vastly more likely to be abusers than LGBTQ+ people.
As I know from personal experience, the [past] couple of years have seen an emboldening of bigots conflating LGBTQ+ identities and paedophilia. They feel safe enough to spout this bigotry publicly and we need to remind them that this language is not only dangerous but defamatory.
