Rep. Zooey Zephyr stated, "I'm happy to see that this proposed ban failed and am grateful for my colleagues-particularly my Republican colleagues - who recognized this as a distraction from the work we were elected to do. I'm ready to represent my constituents and look forward to working on behalf of the people of Montana."
Following her ban in 2023, Zephyr stated, "I would refuse to give an apology because none was warranted" when her colleagues insisted on an apology for her comments against the GOP's stance on gender-affirming care.
Previously banned from the Montana House for her comments, Zephyr's fight for reinstatement included a lawsuit against state and legislative leaders for the violation of her right to free speech.
Montana now has two elected trans representatives, including Zephyr and SJ Howell, highlighting significant representation in a state where trans issues are heavily debated.
