Justin Ghio and his fiancée opted to rent a home in San Diego rather than pursue homeownership, a choice that has provided them significant financial flexibility. After facing competition and soaring home prices and interest rates, they are relieved they didn't buy as renting is more affordable and allows them to save money for vacations and the potential of having a third child. Despite their high income, they find renting more financially sustainable, appreciating the lack of maintenance costs that homeownership would entail.
"Renting feels like we make over $200,000. I think buying would feel like we're broke," Ghio said. "And you don't work 12, 15 years after school to feel broke again."
