'Like a big old bomb': Damaging tornado travels a mile through Pico Rivera
Briefly

Early Thursday morning, residents of Pico Rivera experienced an unexpected tornado, confirmed by the National Weather Service. The tornado, rated as an EF0, had wind speeds of up to 85 mph and traveled approximately a mile, uprooting trees and damaging homes along Glencannon Drive. Witnesses described terrifying sounds and sight as the tornado struck around 3:15 a.m. Meteorologist Ariel Cohen confirmed the tornado's brief yet damaging presence, as several homes sustained minor damages, highlighting the unpredictability of weather events and the community's resilience in the aftermath.
"I heard like a big old bomb," he said. When he looked outside his window around 3:15 a.m., he saw lightning strike across the sky. Then he heard the winds gusting through his street."
"It's my first tornado," he said looking at his collapsed wall. "It's my first time living through it and it was ... it was pretty scary."
The damage pattern of the tornado is consistent with 'a small, weak, brief tornado,' Cohen said.
