The webinar featured CAR President Heather Ozur and Neil Kalin discussing the historical impact of the Eaton Fire on Altadena's predominantly Black community, where 61% of affected homes were Black-owned. Kalin shared essential practices for agents supporting residents, stressing objective assistance and awareness of rebuilding costs and potential neighborhood changes over the next few years. He cautioned that while the community's significance remains, it will evolve, and advised agents on legal matters related to wildfire recovery, including ongoing rent gouging regulations.
[We know] about the historical relevance of this community, but there are going to be changes... Maybe those changes might be for the better, maybe those changes may not be for the better.
Kalin advised agents to maintain an objective approach when working with clients... Be a resource, be a friend, but don't be an attorney.
