Jennifer Feltham and Teodoro Diaz-Rodriguez Jr. transformed their Mid-Wilshire tortilleria into Sonoratown Cantina, blending their cultural backgrounds with food and drink offerings.
It's just like our household. It has to be that way, where we have to find some way of balancing our two very different ethos and what our culture is.
During the pandemic, they rented a small closed restaurant kitchen to meet the demand for their tortillas, which posed safety issues due to break-ins.
Where Teo's from, most convenience stores have a michelada bar built in. We wanted to replicate that informal, friendly atmosphere in our cantina.
