Kali, opened in 2016 by chef Kevin Meehan, earned a Michelin star in 2019 for its California cuisine. After a nine-year run, it transitioned from a tasting menu to a mid-century steakhouse format, reinstating a la carte dining on July 18. This shift was motivated by a decline in demand for tasting menus and inspired by simpler, well-cooked meals. The restaurant underwent a remodel to complement its new direction and also opened a seafood restaurant called Koast nearby.
Kali now features a Mad Men-era steakhouse menu with classic entrees like chicken Milanese and salmon au poivre, moving away from its previous tasting menu format.
