La Pena Cultural Center is celebrating its 50th anniversary amidst a financial crisis, highlighting its important role in preserving Chilean identity and culture in Berkeley.
"This place has been an amazing story unique in the world... there's no other place that connects with the theme of Chile and solidarity with Chile," said Hector Salgado.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric praised attendees for maintaining their identity and cultural legacy in a video message, emphasizing the challenges of history and exile.
The center aims to raise $50,000 to overcome financial difficulties as it continues to serve as a hub for music, art, and activism in the community.
