Katelyn Rosen, a sophomore gymnast at UCLA, is grappling with the weight of expectations following her successful freshman year. Despite earning All Pac-12 honors, she experienced significant challenges in January, particularly on the floor and beam, leading to her first low scores and absence from team lineups. Confessing her tendency to overanalyze failures, Rosen admits that the pressure to perform began to affect her mental health. Coach Janelle McDonald is helping Rosen adjust her preparation to navigate these struggles as the team approaches NCAA regionals.
"If something goes wrong, I'm gonna over analyze it from every single angle, and that usually takes me down into a dark place that I really don't need to be."
"After having such a phenomenal, dream-type freshman year, there were a lot of expectations put on me... and I thrive under that sort of pressure, but for whatever reason this year, it kind of cracked me a bit."
