Tommy Edman to Miss Dodgers Opening Day Following Surgery
""Tommy certainly won't be ready for Opening Day," Roberts said. "He took some swings a couple days ago, both sides, he did some skipping, some light jogging I think it was," Roberts said. "Getting his body into baseball shape. Obviously he's not going to be ready for the start of camp and he's in that same bucket of 'when he's ready he's ready.' Each day there's progress.""
""I think Hyeseong's in the mix, we've got [Santiago] Espinal, obviously Miggy Ro is going to do some things over there, Freeland certainly in the mix, so we're got some nice options," Roberts said."
Tommy Edman will miss Opening Day after offseason ankle surgery. He dealt with injuries during 2025, accruing two injured-list stints and totaling 97 games with 66 starts at second base. Edman hit .225/.274/.382 for a .656 OPS, matched a career high with 13 home runs and drove in 49 runs. He joined Los Angeles via trade from St. Louis in 2024 and became a regular contributor. At spring training Edman has begun limited activity — taking swings, skipping and light jogging — but is not ready for the start of camp. The Dodgers have internal options at second base including Hyeseong Kim, Miguel Rojas, Alex Freeland and Santiago Espinal.
