Ahead of the premiere of The Last of Us season 2, co-showrunner Neil Druckmann expressed doubts regarding a potential The Last of Us Part 3, stating fans shouldn't expect more from the series, indicating that its future depends on crafting a compelling story. Despite the success of Part 2, which received both praise and criticism, Druckmann emphasized the need for a universal message of love to consider a continuation. He is currently focused on developing a new game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which explores faith in institutions.
"I was waiting for this question. I guess the only thing I would say is don't bet on there being more of The Last of Us. This could be it."
"It's up to us whether we want to continue it or not. Our process is the same thing we did when we did Part 2... If we can't come up with something, we have a very strong ending with Part 2 and that will be the end."
