Dodgers Send Mookie Betts Home Early From Tokyo Series to Recover
Briefly

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a crucial decision to send Mookie Betts home before their season opener against the Chicago Cubs due to health concerns. Betts, who suffered an undisclosed illness, lost nearly 15 pounds and was deemed unfit for the competition. Manager Dave Roberts emphasized the importance of Betts regaining strength and avoiding potential injuries linked to dehydration. The decision aims to ensure that Betts is better prepared for the upcoming season, following a grueling journey that began with symptoms just before leaving for Tokyo.
"The thing is when you lose a lot of weight, when you're dehydrated, that's what opens a person up to soft-tissue injuries," Roberts said on Monday. "We're very mindful of that."
"Mookie flew home early evening, late afternoon yesterday and arrived safely," manager Dave Roberts said before the game. "It just made the most sense for him to get back to a regular routine."
