It marked a second consecutive year a Dodgers official had the honor, following Billie Jean King in 2025. Johnson rode down Colorado Boulevard, waving to attendees and later posted that he was grateful for the opportunity. He attended the Rose Bowl quarterfinal to present the coin toss. The quarterfinal proved lopsided as Indiana dominated Alabama. Johnson is best known for leading the Los Angeles Lakers to five championships and for his work as an entrepreneur and philanthropist through the Magic Johnson Foundation and the LA Rises wildfire relief initiative.
