""Defensively, I think it'll be very seamless," manager Dave Roberts said of Kim's performance in camp. "Offensively, there's certainly more velocity. Controlling, getting his path right. Being able to handle balls that move late, handle velocity, and use the whole field. He's going to put the ball in play. He can run. I just think he needs repetition.""
""I would say, if there's one part of it, the question mark, I would say it is the bat," Roberts added. "The competition is different over there than here. ... Obviously he's going through some swing changes that he believes will help him also make this transition easier and sustainable.""
Hyeseong Kim is on Team Korea's roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Kim before the 2025 season to a three-year, $12.5 million contract after trading Gavin Lux. Kim began his Dodgers tenure in the minors following a slow spring camp. Kim brings strong defensive credentials, including four KBO Gold Gloves, but his bat is considered a question entering MLB play. In limited 2025 MLB action he hit .280 with three home runs, 17 RBIs, a .699 OPS, and recorded 13 stolen bases. Manager Dave Roberts emphasized defensive readiness and the need for offensive repetition and swing adjustments.
