Mookie Betts' recovery from a lingering illness has brought hope to the Los Angeles Dodgers as they prepare for their season opener. After experiencing severe stomach issues and inability to eat solid food, Betts was scratched from an exhibition matchup but showed improvement during a workout at Dodger Stadium. Manager Dave Roberts expressed optimism as Betts hit, took grounders, and was able to keep food down. With the potential for him to play in the season opener, there's a renewed sense of confidence for both Betts and the team as they approach the start of the season.
"Really encouraged," manager Dave Roberts said. "Went through a full day at Dodger Stadium, he hit, took grounders, threw, kept food down, which is great. My expectation is that he plays [Tuesday] and takes a few at-bats."
"Still trying to stay optimistic, but I do think that Mookie has turned a corner. Talked to him, he feels great. Expects to play [Tuesday], so right now we're in a good spot."
