"Oracle hasn't responded to either my original open letter or the one from September. By filing this petition with the USPTO, they're forced to respond," Dahl stated, emphasizing the importance of the petition in pressing Oracle to address the trademark issues.
"This outdated legal relic has caused confusion and unnecessary barriers, including cease-and-desist letters sent to organizations for simply using the term 'JavaScript' in their names," said Dahl. This illustrates the real-world impact that Oracle's trademark has had on the tech community.
Dahl, who previously asked for Oracle to relinquish its trademark, noted that more than 14,000 signatories expressed support for his petition, reflecting a significant push for community-driven governance.
