Two lawyers founded Operation Bluebird and filed a 105-page petition with the US Patent and Trademark Office claiming X abandoned the Twitter and Tweet trademarks. The founders, former Twitter lawyer Stephen Coates and trademark attorney Michael Peroff, created Twitter.new to allow users to reserve handles if trademarks are reclaimed. The petition documents removal of bird branding and argues X eradicated the TWITTER and TWEET brands with no intention to resume use. The effort prioritizes rebuilding content moderation and restoring a trusted public square after X's rebrand and perceived declines in brand recognition.
