UnitedHealth has revealed that the Change Healthcare breach impacted approximately 190 million people, significantly more than earlier estimates of one-third of the US population. The company has communicated that most affected individuals received appropriate notifications regarding the breach. The ALPHV/BlackCat group was responsible for the initial ransomware attack, for which UnitedHealth paid a $22 million ransom. A second attack then hit Change Healthcare shortly after. Experts warn that paying ransoms does not guarantee protection from future attacks or losses tied to reputation and operational disruptions.
