A newly discovered bug causes iPhones and iPads to briefly crash, triggered simply by typing "::" or similar characters into specific search bars.

Ryan Stortz, an iOS security researcher, clarified that this bug is not a security issue, stating, 'It's not a security bug,' which was echoed by fellow researcher Patrick Wardle.

Unlike a previous bug from 2020 that affected any Twitter user merely viewing certain characters, this bug requires manual input from an iOS device owner.

TechCrunch verified the crash occurs in both the Search bar of the Settings app and the App Library, briefly crashing the Springboard before reloading.
