Maxar confirmed a data breach that exposed employees' personal information, including social security numbers and employment details, following a hacker's unauthorized access to their network.
The breach was identified on October 11, a week after an attacker compromised the network using a Hong Kong IP address, potentially disguising their actual location.
Maxar took immediate measures to prevent further unauthorized access to its system, but the compromised files had been vulnerable for about one week.
More than half of Maxar's 2,600 employees hold U.S. security clearances, given the company's role in providing satellite imagery for critical government operations.
