PowerSchool starts sending breach notifications, but there are still questions left to answer
Briefly

PowerSchool has begun notifying victims of a severe cyberattack that occurred in December 2024, which may have exposed sensitive personal data of millions. The educational software platform, serving over 60 million students globally, has offered complimentary identity theft protection and credit monitoring to those affected. While the company is reaching out to regulatory authorities in the US and Canada, it has not yet detailed the total number of affected individuals or the specifics of the breach. Reports suggest the impact could involve tens of millions of students and teachers.
PowerSchool began the process of filing regulatory notifications with Attorneys General Offices across applicable US jurisdictions on behalf of impacted customers who have not opted-out of our offer to do so.
In an update published on its website, PowerSchool says it has started notifying individuals in the US, Canada, and abroad affected by the security incident.
