Scammers in Southeast Asia are applying generative AI and deepfake technology to enhance their 'pig butchering' scams, making them increasingly sophisticated and difficult to detect.
'Agile criminal networks are integrating these new technologies faster than anticipated, driven by new online marketplaces and service providers which have supercharged the illicit service economy,' John Wojcik, a UNODC regional analyst, explains.
