At the end of July Orange Belgium detected a cyberattack on one of its IT systems that led to unauthorised access to certain data from 850,000 customer accounts. No critical data were compromised; passwords, email addresses, and bank or financial details were not accessed. The attacker accessed a system containing surname, first name, telephone number, SIM card number, PUK code, and tariff plan. Teams immediately blocked access to the affected system and tightened security measures. Orange Belgium alerted competent authorities and filed an official judicial complaint. Affected customers have been or will be notified by email and/or text message and advised to remain vigilant. A dedicated web page provides further information. However, the hacker gained access to one of our IT systems containing the following data: surname, first name, telephone number, SIM card number, PUK code, tariff plan.
As soon as the incident was detected, our teams blocked access to the affected system and tightened our security measures. Orange Belgium also alerted the competent authorities and filed an official complaint with the judicial authorities. The affected customers have been or will be notified by email and/or text message. We advise them to remain vigilant for any suspicious communications.
