West Chester Township experienced a second cyber-attack this month that targeted the township’s email server. At approximately 6:45 a.m., township officials were notified of a potential cyber-attack and data breach. Township public information officer Brianna Wooten said a team was assembled and a forensic investigation is underway to determine what happened. The township is working with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center to identify those responsible and to secure information. Individuals claiming to be the hackers sent a note to some employees asserting they stole two terabytes of data, including personal information of residents and employees. Neither attack has appeared on dark-web leak sites as of publication.

"At approximately 6:45 a.m., we were notified of a potential cyber-attack and data breach," said West Chester Township public information officer Brianna Wooten. "We got a team together, we're handling it and we're also in the middle of a forensic investigation to get to the bottom of what happened."
Those claiming to be the hackers sent a note to some West Chester employees saying that they had stolen two terabytes of information, including the personal information of residents and employees.
