Meta took down WhatsApp accounts connected to Iranian hackers targeting the US election
Briefly

Meta recently blocked WhatsApp accounts related to a suspected social engineering effort traced to APT42, which has targeted individuals in various countries including the U.S. and Israel.
The investigation revealed that the malicious actors posed as tech support representatives from major companies like Google and Yahoo to manipulate their targets' accounts.
Despite the social engineering attack, Meta found no evidence that the accounts of the politically affiliated individuals were compromised, marking their efforts as largely ineffective.
A related report by Google indicated that APT42 has been attempting to compromise high-profile accounts, but notably had success with Roger Stone, a Trump associate.
