Japanese publisher paid BlackSuit $3 million, but BlackSuit leaked their data anyway - reports
Briefly

Kyodo News reports that Japanese publishing firm Kadokawa Corporation paid Black Suit $2.98 million in cryptocurrency after a ransomware attack in June. However, even after payment, BlackSuit leaked their data, raising concerns about the reliability of such negotiations and the seriousness of ransomware threats.
A screenshot of some of the negotiations in mid-June showed that BlackSuit was demanding $8.25 million in ransom. The firm’s COO explained it was almost impossible to secure approval for more than $3 million, underlining the tensions and limitations faced in ransomware negotiations.
Selectors on BlackSuit’s leak site suggest they leaked the data despite Kadokawa Corporation’s payment. This highlights a troubling trend wherein ransomware groups may not honor their commitments, leaving victims at risk even after compliance.
The leaked data includes sensitive information of 254,241 individuals, emphasizing the severe consequences of ransomware attacks and how they can impact a large number of people, especially in educational institutions.
