Hackney Council has signed a new housing management system contract to mitigate the ongoing fallout from a devastating cyber attack that occurred four years ago.
The cyber attack in October 2020 left a lasting impact on services amid a housing crisis, revealing one of the longest waiting lists in London.
The Information Commissioner's Office criticized Hackney Council for failing to effectively implement measures to protect its systems, describing the breach as a clear, avoidable error.
In the aftermath of the cyber attack, Hackney Council spent over £757,000 to hire agency staff and IT consultants to help address the backlog and recovery efforts.
