Kewadin Casinos has suffered a ransomware attack, compromising its computer systems and leading to a complete shutdown of gaming operations across all its locations. The company is currently engaging third-party experts to investigate the incident and restore operations. Due to the attack, they are unable to access central phone lines and are offering alternative contact methods for hotel guests. This incident reflects a broader trend of increasing ransomware attacks, which now represent a significant portion of cyber threats, with many companies hesitant to pay ransoms as attack frequencies rise.
We immediately enlisted the help of third-party experts to determine how this incident was caused and to restore our gaming operations as quickly as possible.
Kewadin is unable to access the company's computer systems or central phone lines, according to the company's website.
Seven out of 10 cyberattacks in 2023 were ransomware attacks, with more than 317 million attempts recorded.
However, companies may be less inclined in recent years to pay. In the fourth quarter of 2023, only 29% of attacks worldwide resulted in a ransom payment.
