In December, Indiana's Attorney General charged Westend Dental for HIPAA violations after a patient complaint regarding access to records. The investigation revealed that the dental practice experienced a ransomware attack in 2020, which they initially denied. As part of a consent order, Westend Dental was fined $350,000 and mandated to notify affected individuals while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and state regulations. By January 2025, the consent order was approved and Westend Dental has commenced compliance, including issuing public notices about the security incident.
