The visual aesthetics of 'Andor' Season 2 have garnered attention for their striking imagery, which pays homage to Star Wars classics while introducing fresh influences. Cinematographer Christophe Nuyens explained the importance of crafting a mood board for each set to maintain a cohesive style akin to 'Rogue One.' Unexpected influences such as Wong Kar-wai and Roger Deakins' cinematic techniques were also highlighted. Nuyens emphasized the show's commitment to practical, fully built sets, ensuring a tangible and immersive viewing experience.
For every set we built, we had a mood board. It's one of the nice things about working with director Ari Kleiman. He felt like it was important that the show look like Rogue One and like the first season.
Wong Kar-wai was on the mood board for the Coruscant. I had two days of pre-lighting, just to get the right tone for everything.
You say it now, and it's a compliment, and it makes sense. But honestly, along with Wong Kar-wai, I was also thinking about Roger Deakins' work in James Bond movies.
As much as possible, most of what we see is a practical, fully built set. The set for the Ghorman plaza... is nearly 100 percent functional.
