The horror franchise Saw, created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, has grappled with its narrative complexity over the years. Recently, Lionsgate announced delays impacting Saw XI's release, rescheduling it due to competition from another film. Rumors emerged regarding internal disputes among producers leading to suspension of development. Despite fears that Saw's latest installment might be its last, a message from the franchise's iconic puppet reassured fans of further developments. This saga exemplifies both the challenges and enduring appeal of the franchise in contemporary horror.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate recently announced that The Strangers: Chapter 2, the sequel to 2024's The Strangers: Chapter 1, will premiere in theaters September 26, 2025. This was supposed to be the release date of Saw XI, and this isn't the first time it's been bumped.
Saw has been wildly overreacting to people's moral failings for over two decades now.
This came amid rumors that development of the project had paused due to 'inter-squabbling' among producers. 'It's stalled at a managerial level,' co-writer Patrick Melton told in March 2025.
Thanks to these two updates, fans feared 2023's Saw X would be the franchise's final film, but a new update from a strange source seems to have debunked that rumor.
