Star Wars Producer Reveals "Dark" George Lucas TV Show That Never Was
Briefly

Star Wars: Underworld, a proposed live-action series, aimed to explore darker themes between the prequels and the original trilogy. With over 60 scripts showcasing a more adult-oriented narrative, it was designed by talented writers under George Lucas’s vision. Despite its potential, the series was canceled in 2012 due to exorbitant production costs, as each episode was estimated at around $40 million, which was higher than feature film budgets. The advancements in visual effects might have allowed greater feasibility for such ambitious projects today, reflecting the evolution of streaming content.
The episodes, penned by a 'phenomenal group of talent,' were 'dark,' 'sexy,' and more violent than any prior Star Wars project. Underworld 'would have blown up the whole Star Wars universe,' Moore said, before adding, 'Disney definitely would have never offered to buy [Lucasfilm]' had the series gotten the green light.
The problem was, each episode was bigger than the films. The lowest I could get it down to, with the technology that existed then, was about $40 million an episode.
