Restless review relatable real-life horror in nightmare neighbour thriller
Briefly

First-time director Jed Hart delivers a compelling low-budget psychological thriller with 'Restless', showcasing impressive performances by the cast. The story follows Nicky, a hardworking agency nurse whose peaceful life unravels when a disruptive neighbor, Deano, moves next door. The film adeptly portrays the real-world horror of living in a scenario where authorities can offer little help. While the film starts strong, Hart’s script falters due to an implausible ending that detracts from the realistic buildup. 'Restless' is set to be released in UK and Irish cinemas on April 4.
Hart's direction is strong, but it's better than his script; for me the movie, having established its realist credentials, is let down by a completely unreal and silly ending.
Nicky discovers that the police won't help because it's a matter for the council, who themselves have very limited power to intervene, and other neighbours can't or won't get involved.
This is a horror-film situation that really does happen in real life, and Hart certainly gives a sense of how it oppresses the victim.
