Connecticut lawmaker Sen. Martin Looney has introduced a bill aimed at mandating cinemas to clearly communicate when trailers and actual films will start. This initiative arises from constituents' complaints about lengthy waits between film trailers and the feature presentation. While major chains like AMC allocate about 20 minutes for trailers, some independent theaters express concern that this law might hurt their revenue from ads and previews, which are seen as integral to the movie experience. The film industry's recovery post-COVID has been sluggish, adding complexity to this issue.
If they want to get there early and watch the promos, they can. But if they just want to see the feature, they ought to be able to get there just in time for that.
It does seem to me that people are, in effect, a sort of captive audience watching the advertising before they get to see the feature they came to see.
