Fired for making porn, Joe Gow sues for reinstatement
Briefly

Joe Gow, a former chancellor and tenured faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, is suing the university after being fired for producing vegan-themed adult content with his wife. He claims the university's actions violate his First Amendment rights, arguing that they dismissed him for speaking as a private citizen on issues pertinent to healthy sexuality and marriage. Gow acknowledges he does not contest his firing from the chancellor role but insists his dismissal from the faculty position is unjustifiable. Organizations such as the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression have voiced support for his case.
Dr. Gow's videos and books are speech protected by the First Amendment. In particular, as a public employee, Dr. Gow has a First Amendment right to speak as a private citizen on issues of public concern.
UW didn't like what I did on the internet in terms of publishing books and making videos, which was done as a private citizen. By firing him in relation to his production of pornography, Gow said UW officials deprived him of his First Amendment rights.
Joe Gow is suing the University of Wisconsin La Crosse to vindicate his rights to engage in protected expression outside the classroom after the university unceremoniously fired him from his tenured professorship.
