"I welcome the opportunity to help advance technological research, innovation and leadership at Cornell,"
"I've worked closely with many Cornellians over the years, and they consistently demonstrate exceptional leadership, creativity and problem-solving abilities. It's a privilege to give back to my alma mater in ways that strengthen the university's commitment to excellence."
"Many Cornell graduates have gone on to make incredible contributions to society through their innovations,"
Cornell received a $371.5 million pledge from alumnus David Duffield, bringing his total contributions to $550 million and establishing the Cornell David A. Duffield College of Engineering. The university already houses Duffield Hall, completed in 2004 for nanoscale science and engineering, and benefited from Duffield's $100 million pledge last year to update that building. The new gift directs $250 million to a Duffield Legacy Fund for ongoing strategic pursuits, $50 million to advance educational excellence, and the remainder to a Duffield Launch Fund to update infrastructure, strengthen research facilities, support teaching, and advance research excellence. Duffield founded PeopleSoft and Workday and credited his Cornell professors for setting him on the path to success.
