NYC Health Dept. report shows many city residents struggle with mental health issues
Briefly

A mental health study showed that nearly one in four adult NYC residents experience a mental health disorder annually, with at least 15% diagnosed with a serious mental illness. Mental health worsened post-COVID, especially among younger adults. In 2019 and 2021, 15% of children aged 3 to 13 had mental health diagnoses.
Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan highlighted the deep crisis in certain communities while noting relative wellness in others. NYC DOH focuses on policy recommendations to enhance resilience and coping skills in young people, with active implementation underway.
