Moment drink-driver crashed into gates of prime minister's Chequers residence
Briefly

Matthew Wootten, a 44-year-old drink-driver, was sentenced to 32 months in jail after deliberately crashing into the 80-year-old Victory Gate of the Prime Minister's Chequers estate, causing extensive damage.
Wootten's blood alcohol level was found to be 221mg in 100ml of blood—nearly three times the legal limit—when he crashed into the gates, significantly endangering lives.
Celia Mardon, a senior crown prosecutor, noted that the evidence of Wootten's intentional reckless driving and the high blood alcohol level left him with little choice but to plead guilty.
The incident, occurring on 25 June this year while Rishi Sunak served as Prime Minister, resulted in damages amounting to £38,000 and serious injuries to Wootten himself.
