Afterlove EP is an indie game where players navigate the tragic story of Rama, a musician coping with the loss of his girlfriend Cinta. Despite the personal tragedy of the original writer's passing, the development team, including technical artist Maxi, persevered to honor his vision. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Jakarta, the game captures the contemporary culture of Indonesian youth, echoing influences from Japanese media. It represents a growing trend of original Indonesian indie games that showcase local culture, highlighted by recent titles such as Coffee Talk and A Space for the Unbound.
For a while, it felt like we had no direction and no reason to keep going. But after some time, we pushed through even though it was really rough.
Just as Japanese games like Persona 5... showcase their trendy contemporary culture to the world, so too does Afterlove EP depict the kind of trendy neighbourhoods that Indonesian youth gravitate towards.
