The campaign film utilizes the foundational elements of cryptocurrency and blockchain, emphasizing the importance of emotion within the sterile realm of code. Laurie and Toby discuss their efforts to incorporate ASCII as a unique visual language that resonates with digital culture. Collaboration with Buck Design led to complex animations, while music from Jamie XX and sound design from Wave Studios contributed to the film's hypnotic quality. The process involved iterative experimentation to balance authenticity with artistic expression, resulting in a compelling narrative that transcends mere digital representation.
Using only code, how could we take you on a ride, communicate the benefits of crypto and find a feeling?" Laurie asks, detailing how pure code could then become something more.
We were really interested in finding our own thing... landing on ASCII as the aesthetic of choice. Equally native to digital culture, like BSOD, ASCII felt appropriate to the audience.
We didn't want it to be an ASCII art filter... so we were keen to push it and find our own language... leading to much trial and error.
Aware that code in isolation is, ultimately, quite sterile, Laurie stresses how important it was for them to find feeling and "soul" within the sea of blue.
