Adobe's TOS update suggesting access to user content for AI analysis caused uproar online, misinterpreted as AI training. Adobe clarified it won't use customer work for Firefly AI model or assume ownership.
The vague language in the update wasn't new; 'machine learning' reference has been in Adobe's TOS for years. Previous AI tools like Photoshop's Content-Aware Fill and Lightroom's Select Subject were precursors to Firefly.
Despite recent alarm, actual TOS changes were minor, with 'machine learning' inclusion existing for years. The new language was live since February, only notified to users later.
Adobe assured users through a blog post that their commitments remain unchanged, clarifying Firefly AI trains on licensed and public domain data, not user-created content.
