Why Zurich airport has said 'non' to announcements in French
Briefly

Zurich Airport, despite being in a multilingual country, has ceased making announcements in French, opting only for German and English. This decision reflects current trends towards fewer announcements to enhance passenger comfort. Officials cite changing demands from airlines, user data showing minimal French usage, and a 'silent airport concept' aimed at reducing noise. Exceptions exist for boarding announcements to French-speaking destinations, but staff capabilities can determine language use. Other Swiss airports, such as Geneva, continue to use French predominantly, showcasing a contrast in language policy across the country.
The decision to limit ourselves to two languages is a conscious measure taken as part of our so-called silent airport concept.
We are following an international trend, adding that other airports are also reducing announcements to focus on passenger relaxation and comfort.
