How a Cheap Drone Punctured Chernobyl's Steel Shield During the Ukraine War
Briefly

Eric Schmieman dedicated 15 years to constructing a massive protective shield over the Chernobyl reactor to secure against nuclear fallout. Completed in 2016, this colossal structure is the world's largest movable construction, crafted with $1.7 billion from over 45 nations. Although extensive safety measures were taken, including simulations of severe weather scenarios, acts of war were not anticipated. This oversight became apparent on February 14 when a drone attacked, damaging the shell and igniting a fire that took weeks to extinguish.
We did a lot of safety analysis, considering a lot of bad things that could happen... We didn't consider acts of war.
On Feb. 14, a drone with a high-explosive warhead... punched a hole in the steel shell.
