German police arrest suspect in Bielefeld stabbing attack
Briefly

A suspect, a 35-year-old Syrian, was arrested after a two-day search following an attack on five football fans outside a bar in Bielefeld. The victims, aged between 22 and 27, were assaulted with a sharp object as they celebrated their team's league title. Four suffered serious injuries. Witnesses described the attacker as indiscriminately targeting victims with a bladed object, later identified as a cane with a retractable blade. Authorities recovered additional weapons from a rucksack left at the scene, and investigators are exploring motives for the incident.
"The detailed work paid off and we were able to arrest the surprised perpetrator," the state interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Herbert Reul, told dpa news agency after a man was arrested late on Monday evening in the town of Heiligenhaus near Düsseldorf.
"Now we need answers as to what motive led the perpetrator to commit the crime," the minister added, highlighting the ongoing investigation.
