Uber's Lucid Gravity Robotaxis Are Already On The Streets Of San Francisco
"Lucid's robotaxi dreams are inching closer to reality. The American electric car startup, together with its partners Uber and Nuro, unveiled the production-intent version of its upcoming Gravity autonomous taxi today at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. Based on the Gravity SUV and built by Lucid in Arizona, the driverless taxi has already hit the roads of San Francisco for testing in December of last year, with safety drivers behind the wheel."
"The cars will be fitted with Nuro's Level 4-capable hardware suite, which includes high-resolution cameras, radars and solid-state lidar sensors that provide a 360-degree field of view. Some of these sensors are integrated into the Gravity's bodywork, while others are mounted on a purpose-built roof-mounted structure that also has several LEDs and displays to make it easy for riders to identify the correct vehicle before getting in."
Lucid, Uber, and Nuro unveiled a production-intent Lucid Gravity autonomous taxi and began San Francisco testing with safety drivers in December. The vehicles will be assembled by Lucid in Arizona and equipped with Nuro's Level 4 hardware suite. An engineering test fleet of over 100 robotaxis will perform real-world testing, closed-course validation, and simulation ahead of a public Bay Area rollout later in 2026. The three companies plan to deploy more than 20,000 Gravity robotaxis globally over the next six years, with the service exclusive to the Uber platform. Sensors include high-resolution cameras, radars, and solid-state lidar with integrated bodywork and a roof-mounted module featuring LEDs and displays.
