The Light Phone III aims to deliver a digital detox experience through its thoughtfully designed features, including a point-and-shoot film camera and a user-friendly tactile wheel for flashlight operation. It runs on a custom LightOS with a monochrome black and white interface reminiscent of e-ink displays. Notable enhancements from its predecessor include a 5G connection, USB-C port, and fingerprint ID. The phone prioritizes longevity with a repairable design, and its innovative camera features a dedicated two-step shutter button for ease and precision in photography, catering to both casual and serious users.
Unlike the cameras in the past, the one in the modern device has a dedicated two-step shutter button with center focus and a fixed focal length. To adjust the focus, users just half-press the button.
The design team says they want the users to use the device for as long as they can, not just after a year or so.
Its screen is similar to an e-ink display, only monochrome and digital still.
The Light Phone III, the recent sibling of its first model, adds a USB-C port, fingerprint ID, a flashlight, and a 5G connection.
