More than $112,000 raised for Connecticut man kept in stepmom's house of horrors for 20 years
Briefly

A 32-year-old man escaped from a lengthy captivity in his stepmother's Connecticut home after being held for over two decades in horrific conditions. To support his recovery, over $112,000 has been raised through an online fundraiser, aimed at covering medical, legal, and living expenses. The victim, who endured extreme abuse, recounted being locked in a small storage space with minimal food, relying on garbage and toilet water for survival. He finally escaped by starting a fire using household items. His stepmother has been arrested for her alleged crimes.
At least 2,000 people have already donated to the online fundraiser started by Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury to raise $120,000 to support the now-32-year-old 'who endured unimaginable hardship.'
He spent the last two decades locked in a 9-by-8-foot storage space in the dilapidated Waterbury home, where he was deprived of food and water to the point he had to eat out of garbage cans and drink toilet water to survive.
The abuse the man allegedly endured at the hands of his stepmother left law enforcement officials to call it 'the worst treatment of humanity that I've ever witnessed.'
