In January 2025, interior designers Tamara Kaye-Honey and Adam Hunter independently mobilized relief efforts during the Los Angeles wildfires, focusing on furnishing displaced families and providing essentials. Hunter launched the LA Can Do initiative, leveraging his design connections to create a grassroots movement for furniture and supplies, while Kaye-Honey operated The Soft Landing Project from her studio. They collaborated through a Google Hangout, pooling their resources and networks into a unified mission to assist families affected by the disaster effectively.
From the first call, there was a sense of alignment - both in purpose and pace. Tamara and her team had been working tirelessly with local networks to coordinate donations, and I was mobilizing my contacts in the design world to gather furnishings and essentials.
Recognizing the immediate needs of displaced families, we transformed the studio into a donation hub, collecting essential items for those impacted.
