Chess player in Kerry sets new record of 78 simultaneous games in 'greatest challenge' of his life

"It's certainly not every day that you have to prepare yourself to play what turned out to be 78 games of chess simultaneously, all in the name of breaking a national record for the number of simultaneous chess players, a record that had stood since 1977, nearly 50 years ago."

Yunis Barudi, a talented Ukrainian chess player, prepared for a marathon chess fundraiser at MTU in Tralee on Saturday morning. He faced the challenge of playing 78 simultaneous chess games, an ambitious undertaking designed to break Ireland's national record for simultaneous chess players. The existing record had remained unbroken since 1977, standing for nearly 50 years. Barudi acknowledged feeling stress and nerves ahead of this demanding event, which combined athletic endurance with chess skill while raising funds for charity.
