BCNY Fall Dance At The Waldorf Astoria Raises Over $1 Million
"One of the highlights of the evening was a speech given by Ryan Lin, a BCNY member who started out as an ambitious kid, got into Hunter High School, and is currently attending NYU, with BCNY support throughout his journey. Filled with gratitude, Lin ended his speech by brilliantly letting us know he was looking for a summer internship within the finance industry."
"Filled with gratitude, Lin ended his speech by brilliantly letting us know he was looking for a summer internship within the finance industry. "There is a desperate need for third spaces in America," said Lin. "Too many kids are being raised by screens, and that leads to anxiety, depression, and attention disorders. The Boys' Club offers something essential. It gets kids off their phones, gives them a place to socialize, to play, and to grow into healthy, confident young men.""
The Boys' Club of New York held its 74th annual Fall Dance at the newly reopened Waldorf Astoria, attended by 350 guests and multiple event co-chairs. Generous sponsors, including Sustainable Brown Brothers Harriman and Oscar de la Renta, helped raise over $1 million for BCNY programs. The Waldorf ballroom and common spaces were meticulously cleaned and modestly updated while preserving original décor, producing a brighter, more open feel. Food and service, including Caesar salad and filet mignon, were notably improved. A BCNY member described his path from Hunter High School to NYU with BCNY support and emphasized the need for third spaces and youth social opportunities. BCNY continues expanding programs across East Harlem, Flushing, and its sleepaway camp.
